Residential
Set high in the hills above Nice with open views across the Côte d’Azur, the project is guided by a single aim: align architecture and interior as one and strengthen the relationship with the landscape. The composition frames the setting rather than competing with it and establishes a calm, holistic interior.
The existing Mediterranean house is reconfigured to bring clarity to the plan and continuity between rooms. Circulation is simplified, views are aligned and spaces connect more directly to the gardens and the horizon. The main hallway becomes a gallery passage with controlled openings that set a clear rhythm and reinforce internal relationships. The master suite is enlarged, with the former attic replaced by a sloping ceiling that restores balance between footprint and height. The basement is converted into a complete wellness area with an adjoining gym, designed with the restraint of a quiet gallery and laid out for straightforward daily use and maintenance.
Walls and openings are reset to establish clear sightlines from arrival and entry, through the house, to the terraces. Slim window frames are recessed into walls and volumes, keeping the reading of the architecture clear. A continuous secondary layer is introduced to resolve junctions, integrate services and carry storage and doors. Within this layer, a set of fixed and pivoting panels manages privacy and practicality, allowing spaces to open or separate without adding structure. This reduces visual noise and makes the plan adaptable through the day and across seasons.
Materials are selected for timeless durability, consistency and relation to place. Soft powder tones sit with vertical elm panelling and German sandblasted limestone on principal planes, with measured accents of white onyx. Polished aged tin forms carefully positioned screens that reflect key views back into the plan and reinforce the link to the exterior. Detailing is direct and precise, with quiet references to the maritime setting. The restrained palette forms a stable backdrop for a considered selection of art, vintage pieces and crafted objects.
The architecture sets the frame, the interior consolidates it, and the setting completes it. The result is a precise and usable house with clear routes, robust finishes and flexible thresholds. It is composed for daily life, leaves room for personal stories and will gain depth through use and patina.
